Boston Freedom Trail - Boston is rich in historical sites that are adjacent and interconnected to each other. The city has gained its reputation as a walking city because all its historic places can be visited and viewed through a three to four-hour walk in The Freedom Trail.
The Freedom Trail is the first historic trail and a perfect passage to experience the Colonial Revolutionary Boston. A 4 km walk in this downtown trail of Boston offers the tourists with a feel of history through the remains and the living witnesses of the past. The 16 historical sites along this trail are interconnected by red bricks or painted lines serving as guides for the tourists. The trail also lets the visitors to witness the change of time in Boston because of the past and modern structures along the trail.
With the modern interventions within the trail, The Freedom Trail Foundation was formed in 1964 with a goal of preserving the historic value of the trail. The first information center opened in 1966 at Boston Common where the trail starts. The center gives free maps and brochures with complete information about the sites in the trail. The Freedom Trail was then included in the newly established Boston National Historical Park in 1974 as enacted by the National Park Service.
The annual statistics of local and foreign visitors of the trail reaches as high as three to four million for the past years. Most of the visitors spend the whole day roaming around and studying the exhibits in different historical sites, some of the stops on the way include:
